SEQTA launches campaign for dedicated busways and frequent services

The South-East Queensland Transport Association (SEQTA) is launching #BackTheBusways, urging residents to support dedicated busways through Brisbane City Council’s Metro expansion survey.

Following a year of advocacy and stakeholder meetings, SEQTA is calling on the State [LNP] and Federal [ALP] Governments to back Metro expansion with funding and a clear delivery plan.

Imogen Buckley, SEQTA Founder
“Fifty-cent fares have made catching the bus affordable. Busways can make it the obvious choice,” SEQTA Founder Imogen Buckley said in a statement last night.

“Buying a better bus does not fix the traffic it sits in. Passengers deserve a clear run past congestion and services frequent enough to rely on.”

SEQTA is calling for:

  • 🛣️ Dedicated busways and guaranteed bus lanes across entire corridors, minimising delays at intersections and shared running with general traffic.
  • ⏱️ Frequent, accessible services, including evenings and weekends.
  • 🚌 High-capacity, articulated vehicles, with fleets planned to meet future demand.
  • 📅 A funded delivery plan, with coordination between Brisbane, Logan and Redland City Councils and the State and Federal Governments to improve connections before 2032 and beyond.

SEQTA Taskforce member Curtis Sheppard said:

Curtis Sheppard, SEQTA Taskforce
“Brisbane Metro continues to be one of the most effective transport projects for battling congestion and increasing public transport usage within Greater Brisbane.”

Fellow Taskforce member Faris called for attention to corridors beyond the current expansion proposals, describing busways as

“catalysts for better transport”.

The campaign encourages passengers to describe where they get stuck and how better services would improve their lives.

Imogen Buckley, SEQTA Founder
“If your bus gets stuck every morning, tell Council where. This is our opportunity to turn everyday frustration into a clear demand for better transport,” Ms Buckley said.
