The South-East Queensland Transport Association (SEQTA) welcomes the opening of the Gold Coast Light Rail extension to Burleigh Heads, marking a major milestone for public transport on the Gold Coast.
The 6.7-kilometre extension from Broadbeach South to Burleigh Heads adds eight new stations and brings the G:link network further into the southern Gold Coast.
SEQTA Founder Imogen Buckley welcomed the opening, saying the extension represents an important step forward for the Gold Coast's public transport network.
Burleigh Heads has been waiting a long time for better public transport, and today that wait is over.
This is more than just an extension of a tram line. It gives residents and visitors a genuinely useful alternative to driving and makes it easier to access some of the Gold Coast's busiest communities.
SEQTA looks forward to seeing the new extension become an integral part of the Gold Coast's public transport network and supporting continued investment in reliable and sustainable transport across South East Queensland.
It's time now to get trams into palmy before 2035.
